Necking

Necking

On a recent winter vacation to Arizona, I was lucky enough to spend a month following a herd of wild horses in the desert outside Phoenix. Many people think of the desert landscape as boring or ugly, but I found great beauty in the rawness of the land. I was mesmerized by the herd of wild horses and took thousands of photos of the herd while I was there in February. I’ve included several of the photographs I took, with some of them painted to enhance the essence of the image.

At the time that I was there, it was nearing mating season and the stallions were mixing it up quite a bit to win the opportunity to mate with the mares.  At times these fights were quite brutal and it made you wonder about how cruel nature sometimes seems. Then you see this white stallion slowly walk up to a mare and lay his head across her back and then move it up her neck and at that moment you know not to question nature’s ways. All animals have souls and experience love!
