Beautiful But Deadly
I took this photo of a lionfish while scuba diving off the coast of St. Lucia. This colorful but deadly fish is called Pterois in Latin and is a genus of venomous marine fish native to the Indo-Pacific. It is characterized by conspicuous warning coloration with red or black bands, and ostentatious dorsal fins tipped with venomous spines. While beautiful, the lionfish in an invasive species not native to Caribbean waters. I was careful not to get too close but the splendid colors of the lionfish sure create a wonderful photo! The image reminds me that you can find beauty in almost every facet of life – you just have to look.
