Taken just at sunrise as the fishing boats filling the harbor of a small Alaskan village were preparing for another day of commercial fishing. To me this photo evokes the emotions of anticipation, adventure, hard work and gratitude. Let me explain. Commercial fishing is not an easy job and there are no guarantees that you will be successful but the anticipation of what the day will bring is there. Secondly, at least for me, I suspect the lure of having great adventures on the open seas is what draws many of these men to do this kind of work. Third, this is not an easy way to make a living and it takes strong men with a strong work ethic to do this day in and day out over many years. And finally gratitude. This refers to the gratitude we all should have toward these men who work so hard and risk their lives to put food on our tables. So when you look at this picture or sit down to a meal of fish take a moment to silently thank those who made it possible.
