Doe in Abstract
Life is filled with many moments, and it’s impossible to remember all of them. Luckily for me, many of those memorable moments are captured in photographs I’ve taken over the last 50+ years. Sometimes those photos have depicted jaw-dropping scenes – but many others have captured small and seemingly insignificant moments that are just as memorable for me. This photo of a doe that I photographed in 2015 close to my home in Minnesota is one such moment. The doe looked right at me as we met on a trail in the woods one spring. I was struck by the connection I felt with the doe and the embrace of nature as we silently acknowledged each other’s existence. This poem from Thomas Bailey Aldrich titled Memory captures that idea of a simple thing that becomes a memorable moment in time:
” My mind lets go a thousand things
Like dates of wars and deaths of kings,
And yet recalls the very hour--
'T was noon by yonder village tower,
And on the last blue noon in May--
The wind came briskly up this way,
Crisping the brook beside the road;
Then, pausing here, set down its load
