This is a “photo painting” of the harbor in Portsmouth, Maine, that I took while on a walk one day while on vacation. As I was taking the photo, I thought about how we as humans are often defined – and limited - by our senses. As you stand looking over the Portsmouth harbor, you see color and form. You smell the fragrance of the sea. You can hear the quite lapping of the waves against the shore and the boats in the harbor. Gulls announce their presence. But these were not the characteristics that prompted me to take the picture. For me, it was as it always is with my photography. Even something as simple as blue sky, a yellow sun, green grass and bobbing sailboats reminded me that here was another expression of that oneness from which all creation arises and eventually falls back to. Some call it God. Some call it Tao. There are many words to describe it. I call it love and you can experience it everywhere. Take a walk and see for yourself!
