Twin Fourteeners

Twin Fourteeners

I was in Aspen, Colorado on vacation and decided to spend a day photographing a range of mountains southwest of Apsen that include the Maroon Bells. These two mountain peaks -Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak – are separated by less than half a mile. Both peaks are “fourteeners”, meaning they rise to an elevation above 14,000 feet.

But since I was unfamiliar with the area and where the best photo spots might be, I hired a local local professional photographer to take me to his favorite spots. Here is where the story gets good. As we hiked back into the clearing and saw the lake the local photographer stopped and let out a gasp with a few four-letter words thrown in. He said he had been coming to this spot for 60 years and had never seen a moose in the lake! Of course he left his camera home. Since then I have talked to many photographers and have yet to find one that has seen a moose here. This is what makes this photo so special!! It also is a clear example of how life can show you wonderful surprises if you are willing to take a moment to explore new places and new ideas. Be an adventurer – you never know when a something unexpected (like a moose) will have a starring role in your fun adventure.
